Researching Chanel beauty advertisements (Day look).

Staff . (2015). Chanel Beauty Ad Campaign Spring/Summer 2015.Available: http://theessentialist.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03/chanel-beauty-perfection-lumber-extreme.html. Last accessed 13th April 2016.

The first advertisement I found was this one. This image is advertising the Vitalumière collection in April 2016, as April is in the spring I felt this would be a positive advertisement to look at as it is in the same seasons our brief is based upon and would therefore prove informative with my project. The main elements of this advertisement is for the focus to be all on the skin as Chanel are advertising products that are for bases. The whole aesthetic of the image reflects this as they colours are neutral and the model has the 'no makeup' look. I like the way the products have been placed on the advertisement as I do not think they are taking away from the model and look to a good size in comparison to the model. I like the idea to this look as I like products that focus on the skin, I feel as though this is a simple yet effective look and conveys the product the brand is advertising well.

The next image I looked at was this one advertising the Spring 2015 collection. I think this image reflects SS very well as the main colour is a bright pink, this has been placed on the lips and the nails. The other elements of this image are the lightly blushed cheeks with the same colour palette of pink. This advertisement fits with the colours associated with the brand as the model is wearing white. Finally I like the contrast between the pale skin and the really dark eyes as this model is wearing quite dark eyeliner, however this seems to be in order to advertise the eyeshadow palette to the left as there is a black colour included. The flower is also a reflection of Chanel as a brand as this is featured in a lot of their advertisements/products/packaging. Finally I like the simplicity of the background and although the product is quite large in comparison to the model I do not feel it is overpowering and fits the image well. It is clear that this is an advertising image as the products seem to catch my eye first.

Here is another example of a Chanel advertisement. I like the background to this image as it seems to be a beach which fits with the aesthetic of the product it is selling as this is skin care and often skin care products are advertised with natural elements such as the beach. This also reflects the idea of rest and relaxation with skin care products as they are advertised to soothe and relax the skin. Another thing I think is successful about this advertisement would be the natural look of the model, often models look very preened for a 'natural' look whereas in this image the model has quite messy hair which is inferred to be an effect of being on the beach, the wind messes up the hair. I like the styling in this image in terms of what looks to be an oversized blanket as this is something consumers are likely to wear on the beach.

I next found this advertisement for the Les Beiges. This product looks to be a blush/powder of some sort, the product looks too dark to have been the models setting powder but seems to match the colour used of her cheeks. Once again this is recognisably a Chanel advertisement due to the colour scheme, everything has been kept very neutral and beige. This was more than likely intended as the product is called 'Les Bieges'. The model has been styled in the typical Chanel tweed style jacket and her hair had been left natural. Again I feel this is a simple yet effective advertisement image.

Firstly I liked the right hand side of this advertisement. I thought the way the shades of foundation were placed in a 'C' shape and if you tilt your head slightly it looks like the logo of Chanel was a clever way of cementing the brand name and showcasing the shades that the foundation comes in. I feel the image to the left is a strong image, the lighting seems to be coming from the right which is leaving a shadow along the hair and illuminating the front of the face, which will therefore make the focus of the image on the face as the image is selling a foundation. The image to me looks strong due to the slick backed pony tail, this is different to most of the Chanel advertisements as usually they will go for a natural hair look, whereas this is not. This could be to represent that the foundation is a strong and long-wear foundation, this hairstyle had also previously proved a big trend so the brand is keeping up to date on trends too. The placement of the products is also nice as it does not take away from the strength and focus of the image.

This advertisement to be is very charming, the font chosen for the word 'rouge' is very girly and soft which is successful as it is in a pink font. The model once again is a typical Chanel model as her makeup has bee made naturally pretty and the focus of the image is definitely the product it is selling (lipstick) as this is the main source of colour on the models makeup. I like the way the product has been placed to the right of the model and the way that the background fades into the image of the woman. I feel this image appeals to the type of consumer that prefers natural makeup and is looking for something to add colour to their everyday makeup look.

A feature of this advertisement that appealed to me would be the background looking like the blush with the stripes of pink and white, this I feel reiterates what the image is selling and also fits with the colour scheme of the image. This product reflects spring to me due to the colour pink, this has been used for the blush, the nails, the lips, the eyeshadow and the background of the image which all tells the viewer the brand is selling something pink. I like the pose of the model as it is not too full on but is more than just sitting there looking pretty. The focus of this image is definitely the makeup as you cannot really see the hair and the clothing is modest and white.

This advertisement stood out to me because of the lighting. I think the way the light is hitting the side of the face is very complimentary to the makeup and increases the focus on the makeup the brand is selling. Once again pink has been used in the colour palette of this advertisement as the collection is a blush, lipgloss and lipstick. I feel as though these products represent SS to me as they look to be quite lightweight and wearable in the hot weather. This advertisement stood out to me as the lighting gives it a different look for a Chanel advertisement.

Finally I looked at this image advertising the summer 2010 collection. This image depicts summer as it is brightly lit and the model is wearing sunglasses. Once again the colour featured is a bright pink, this is something I will plan to use in my own advertisement for my day look as the colour has been a theme throughout most of the advertisements I have found. Once again the colour has been used on the nails too and the sunglasses are white which is a Chanel colour. I like the contrast between the colours and the black background and the way the image is so bright reflects a bright summer sun.
